20140712-JennyBlake-392NAMES Jenny Liu and Blake Lin LIVE IN Bethany neighborhood OCCUPATIONS She’s an economics professor; he’s an engineer HOW THEY MET As grad students at UC Berkeley HOW THEY GOT ENGAGED Blake surprised Jenny with a trip to New York City, where he popped the question over a delicious meal REHEARSAL DINNER Everyone met at the couple’s house to feast on Japanese takeout (chirashi) from Beaverton’sToshi, with Oregon beer NUMBER OF GUESTS 19—a smaller group meant they could take really good care of everyone COLORS Patterns rather than a particular hue: stripes, polka dots, chevrons THEME A rustic, romantic alfresco dinner party with their closest friends and family FLOWERS Hydrangea, roses, stock, mums, lisianthus, and snapdragon from Trader Joe’s, arranged by Jenny’s mother DIY HIGHLIGHTS Jenny used Makr for all the paper goods, Blake built a giant Jenga game, and a family friend helped embellish tiki torches with tulle and lace COSTUME CHANGE Taiwanese brides typically change outfits, hair, and makeup a few times; their day wasn’t traditional, but Jenny let her hair down and donned a non-puffy gown for dinner MENU Northwest with Chinese flair: curried crab cakes, jellyfish salad, a whole roast pig, and more. Each course was paired with David Hill wines. DESSERT Beard Papa’s vanilla cream puffs, plus Pix’s colorful Tiki Tiki and Jane Avril FAVORS Vintage-style key bottle openers and jars of chocolate-covered almonds and blueberries FAVORITE DETAIL A vintage box spring used to display pictures—all the guests were featured IF THEY HAD IT TO DO OVER They’d buy even fewer flowers: the natural charm and beauty of the winery was plenty décor THE DAY IN THREE WORDS Intimate, romantic, delicious HONEYMOON Patagonia
