NAMES Scott Carino (above left) and Will Mallari LIVE IN Walnut Creek, California OCCUPATIONS Scott is a real estate developer; Will is an attorney HOW THEY MET Through a mutual friend THE PROPOSAL Will proposed at sunset on a balcony at Kauai’s St. Regis Princeville Resort in October 2011. The couple waited to marry until it was legal in their home state of California, and, fortunately, Oregon followed suit just in time for their event. WHY THEY WED IN BEND It was centrally located between the grooms’ hometowns, but mainly they thought: “Two dudes getting married? How about a ranch?!” WELCOME PARTY A casino-themed evening to kick off the weekend celebration NUMBER OF GUESTS 250 COLORS Sage, sand, and ivory, with sunset-like yellow, orange, and red accents, inspired by their high-desert location THEME Rustic ranch luxury FLOWERS Nothing frilly! Instead, they chose vibrant, textural, desert-friendly blooms (pincushion protea, cymbidium orchids, craspedia) paired with seeded eucalyptus, hypericum berries, and succulents. Curly willow, driftwood, barn wood, and birch elements helped create a rustic and masculine look. MENU A delicious family-style feast; their favorite appetizer was the black truffle mac-and-cheese fritters DESSERT Four tiers of pink Champagne and lemon poppy seed cakes, frosted stucco-style with buttercream, plus Brasada’s s’mores at the fire pit UNIQUE TWISTS Having their golden retrievers serve as ring bearers, a bagpiper processional, and hosting an oxygen bar to keep everyone going into the wee hours FAVORS Customized coozies and horseshoes with tags that read: “Share our love and luck” ADVICE If you want all of your loved ones there, be mindful of their budgets and the travel logistics, especially for destination weddings. Also, try to avoid an early flight out for the honeymoon. THE DAY IN THREE-ISH WORDS Fun-filled, love-fest, legal HONEYMOON Bali

We had all of our family and friends together for three days of fun and celebration, including a whitewater rafting excursion and a reception with an ’80s concert—totally awesome! —Will Mallari
